Due to a number of interruptions and disruptions beyond the control of the eThekwini Transport Authority, work on the installation of services between Josiah Gumede Road along Qashana Khuzwayo Road to Dinkelman/Otto Volek Roads has been delayed.

The ETA would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by these delays. As a result current works along Qashana Khuzwayo Road, from Josiah Gumede (Old Main Road) to Dinkelman (Otto Volek) Road, are now anticipated to finish by March 2017.

The contractor will endeavour to minimise the impact of the work on the property accesses in the vicinity of this project and is doing their utmost to catch up on the time lost.

It was previously advised that during September 2016, the intersections along Josiah Gumede Road, between Anderson and Beviss would be under construction.

Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of October 2016 in sections along this route.

Adequate signage will be continuously displayed during this period and traffic will be diverted when necessary along alternative routes to avoid congestion.

Seventy five Grade 8 learners from Maris Stella paid a visit to the GO!Durban project office to meet the team that are designing and implementing the City’s new integrated rapid public transport network. The learners, who were on assignment to research a project for their Geography syllabus, were given a presentation on the full GO!Durban programme which will network the city from east to west and north to south with a series of dedicated bus lanes, feeder and complementary bus routes and non-motorised transport pedestrian walkways, cycle lanes and pedestrian bridges, as well as an upgraded train service from KwaMashu to the City CBD to transport close to 600 000 people each day. According to Shoneeze Franks, the Manager: Transport Promotions and Media at the eThekweni Transport Authority, the learners were “fabulously up to speed on what public transport means for a city,” and they were “delightfully engaging – asking so many questions about the future of public transport for Durban, and how we were all going to benefit from the new system.”
